Members of the 60+ Club are young at heart. They enjoy meeting with friends, participating in different activities, having refreshments to enjoy all for the cost of a smile. We meet the third Sunday of the month from 2pm to 4pm. Attend one of our meetings and see if you don’t agree.
The purpose of the Altar Rosary Society is to “praise and honor the Blessed Virgin Mary and to secure her patronage by the recitation of the Rosary for the mutual spiritual benefit of all the members throughout the world” and for all members of Christ the King parish. Some of their functions include: Rosary Devotions (monthly and feasts of the Blessed Mother), May Crowning, care and cleaning of altar and altar linens, fund raising in support of parish, parish outreach (assist needy families and mercy work in time of bereavement), monthly participation in the sacrament of the Eucharist; encouraging sociability and promoting interest in church activities among women of the parish; assisting in the decoration of the church for special occasions; sponsoring a Women’s Retreat, annual Communion Breakfast.
Membership is open to all women of the parish 18 years and older. Members determine their own level of participation from the very active to the less active honorary members. The frequency of meetings is to be determined. Business matters are discussed, and then a social hour follows. Guest speakers are often invited during the course of year to discuss health, history, religion, etc. Meetings normally include a program designed to entertain and/or educate, a social time, and the business meeting.
One year after they receive their First Eucharist, boys and girls become eligible to participate as Altar Servers. If your child is interested in serving the Lord at Mass, look for an announcement in the bulletin in the spring. Altar Servers will receive training at the parish.
This committee coordinates the Christ the King annual blood drive (including the serving of refreshments).
Adult members of the Children’s Ministry plan and coordinate the children’s participation in the celebration of Mass once a month. This includes coordinating the children's roles. The younger members serve as choir, lectors, ushers, greeters, and bulletin distributors. Members of this ministry also serve in the May Crowning.
Those selected to serve as Collection Counters are responsible for the accurate and confidential processing of the parishioners gifts of treasure; they are appointed by the pastor.

Are those faithful friends of Jesus who enjoy spending time in His Real Presence. Come and be with Jesus in this time of peace, love, and fulfillment. Adoration is held Monday after the noon Mass until 3:30pm, and Tuesday from 7pm to 8pm. Other devotions are held throughout the year; please see the bulletin for announcements.
Ministers entrusted with the solemn responsibility of distributing the Body and Blood of Jesus Christ to the faithful (be it at Mass or to the homebound).
Organization dedicated to teaching our parishioners about our religion and its history.
The Food for the Needy works with the Somerset County Food Bank to help feed the needy. The first Sunday of every month we collect food items plus other needed items such as paper products, cleaning items, etc. After each Mass the items are brought downstairs and we unpack them, count them and pack them to be picked up by the food bank. We also sponsor “ziti for the needy”. This is where the parishioners are asked to make one of two casseroles, freeze it, and return it. Then we deliver them to S.H.I.P. We hold our meetings the fourth Monday of each month.
The Grounds Committee oversees some of the needs of our parish’s grounds—landscaping, planting and maintaining the parish shrubs and flowers.
The Holy Name Society is a men’s organization whose purposes are to enrich individual spiritual life and to provide manpower resources for the parish.
Meetings are held monthly with occasional faith sharing sessions. Members attend Mass; Eucharistic Adoration and spiritual retreats as a group. Members also serve in other ministries such as lectors, Eucharistic Ministers, ushers, religious education instructors, etc. Other typical activities include the toy drive for the Samaritan Homeless Program, an award to a graduating student at the school, and changing the backboards on the Stations Of the Cross.
Serving coffee, tea, juice, danish and cookies, the members of this committee provide more than refreshments after all the Masses one weekend per month.
This group was formed to knit or crochet blankets, booties, bonnets, etc. for babies. The crafts are donated to the Pregnancy Aid Center in Raritan. Lap blankets are made and donated to an organization for the homeless or nursing homes for the elderly. The group meets on the third Tuesday of the month at 7pm in the parish meeting room. All are welcome.
If you are comfortable reading in front of a congregation, the parish can always use more lectors. The schedule varies from Mass to Mass, but generally, lectors read every 2-3 weeks. For your convenience, there are pronunciation guidelines for some of the more challenging names/places.
Whether decorating inside or outside the church, the liturgical decorators prepare the church for Christmas, Lent, and Easter.
Music adds a dimension of meaning and feeling to our worship that words alone cannot sustain. Christ the King places a high value on liturgical music. The Director of Music plays the organ at each Mass. Our Adult Choir complements the congregational singing at the 10:30 Mass each Sunday from October through Pentecost, and at various other liturgies throughout the year. New members are always welcome; all that is needed is a love of singing, commitment to a weekly rehearsal and Mass, and the ability to carry a tune without a bucket. We also have a Mercy Choir, which is a group of people who attend funerals at Christ the King. They sit as part of the congregation, assisting the bereaved by singing and participating in the Mass. All are welcome to join the Mercy Choir. Parishioners appointed by the pastor to count the collections for the Masses.
In 1999, the Parish Council was established to assist the pastor with the apostolic and administrative work of the parish, by facilitating the communications, coordination , and planning required to achieve the pastoral mission of parish. It is comprised of 145 elected members and 4 permanently appointed members. Meetings are held the second Monday of the month at 7pm in the parish meeting room and are open to all parishioners.
The Christ the King Prayer and Praise Group was formally inducted in a special ceremony and has been in existence since the early 1980’s. The meetings are held the third Monday of the month and consist of songs of praise, scripture readings, praying for the sick and emergency prayer requests, for church and town issues, schools, police, firemen, rescue squad members, clergy, town and government officials, etc. A prayer chain is available to the public for emergency prayer requests.
The Pre Cana Team is comprised of married couples who help prepare engaged couples for the Sacrament of Marriage. Engaged couples should contact the rectory office at least a year in advance of the date on which they would like to be married. The Diocese of Metuchen will provide a brochure of all the local Pre Cana classes with contact numbers.
The Pro-Life Committee works to keep our parish family informed of Pro-Life issues. They promote involvement in activities to advance the Pro-Life cause and provide regular communication and “Pro-Life Thoughts” in our weekly bulletin. Ongoing projects includes: the current Adopt-a-baby program, annual participation in the Somerset County Life Chain and the Right-to-Life march in Washington, DC; daily prayer for pregnant mothers and for women who have had abortions.
Catechists—Parishioners who dedicate themselves to the religious education of grades 1-9.
Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA) - RCIA is designed for adults who, prompted by the Holy Spirit, freely wish to enter full initiation church. This Initiation is a gradual process of prayer, catechesis and spiritual growth ending with the reception of the Sacraments of Initiation: Baptism, Confirmation and Holy Eucharist. This process takes place within the community of faith. Are you being called by the Holy Spirit to aid these adults on their faith journey? Are you willing to share with them your time, your experiences, and your faith?
The Social Committee coordinates a variety of CTK social events. From planning for a Pasta Dinner, to the Annual Picnic, these members plan the venue, the food, the music, activities… There is something for everyone from cooking, to decorating, to making signs or tickets.
